Welcome
"Scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography have been studying the earth and its
environment for more than 100 years. The UC San Diego Sustainability Solutions
Institute provides another channel for Scripps science to help create a better future for
the benefit of society and the environment."
-Tony Haymet, Director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego

Universities create the future.  Through creating new
knowledge and new technologies; by educating
tomorrow’s workforce; in modeling responsible resource
use; and by overcoming cultural and social barriers, we
    are shaping society.

Sustainability, i.e., meeting today’s needs without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet
their needs, is the central challenge of the 21st century.
UC San Diego is proud to be a leader in the development
    of a more sustainable future.

The overall campus effort, Sustainability 2.0, is
positioning UC San Diego as a model of what is
possible. Here we are integrating research and operations
to apply our research to the campus community
to develop and evaluate more sustainable approaches to resource management, building design, and operating policies.

Students at UC San Diego have the opportunity to participate directly in sustainability research, to learn the latest in sustainability science, and to live in an environment where we are reducing our ecological footprint and working to restore and protect the natural systems on which we depend.

The Sustainability Solutions Institute is a central element in Sustainability 2.0, creating opportunities for faculty, researchers, students, and non-academic partners to work together on interdisciplinary, translational research and outreach programs.
