VIDFEST '09: Student Film Festival creating awareness for Mother Earth...
Held on Friday, April 24, 2009 at the Loft
UC San Diego’s EarthWeek wrapped itself up with an evening filled with good friends, good food and a viewing of how to help Mom out (Mother Earth that is). UC San Diego students and participants from High Tech High School came together to watch their short films and public service announcements advocating environmental sustainability on the big screen in the presence of their families and peers and surrounded by popcorn and other treats.
Vidfest Winners:
PSA Winners:
1st Place - “Contained” by Adam Stephenson - A whimsical yet informative piece about the effects of trashing a aluminum can. 2nd Place - “Where Do They All Go” by Bryce Kho – Everyone buys plastic bottles to quench that thirst… but have you ever thought where your bottle ends up?
Honorable Mention – Jenna Frkovich - While at the grocery store, Julie
runs into her ex - Bottled Water. She must explain to him why she hasn’t
been returning his calls and that she has moved on.
Short Film Winners: 1st Place - “Plastic Matters” by Keenan Hartsten and Rob Ross – If plastic bags could rule the Earth, then it could due to the amount of bags that are dumped daily to the local landfill. So think twice when going to a local grocery store. 2nd Place - “Jump In” by Nick Stavros – Have you ever wondered on what you could do to help Mom? Nick Stavros presents various ideas for you to be involved in keeping UCSD Green.
Honorable Mention - “SELC: Conserving North County’s National Gem” by Adam Stephenson – An
informative number on the natural wonders that San Diego has to offer.
Audience Choice:
“If Penguins Could Attack” by Christina Nguyen – When you are careless about the usage of water, watch your back… the penguins will attack. “Fair Trade University” by Frances Avendano – Being green goes beyond recycling. Frances Avendano presents a film illustrating what students and faculty are doing to achieve a sustainable environment by creating a fair trade system within UCSD.
